In the dentist's chair

Hazel had her 2nd dentist appointment last Friday. At her first visit, she only let them look in her mouth. I was quite the proud mommy this time, as she let the hygienist not only clean her teeth with a noisy spinning tool but also scrape the tarter (of which there was a lot). Yaay Hazel! She also thought the spit vacuum was pretty neat. The best part, of course, was picking out a prize from the treasure chest. She chose a self-inking stamp of a squirrel and then stamped her hand and smeared the blue ink across her face. Sigh... fortunately home was our next stop at that point. I was a nice mom, though, and got out my stamps and ink pads when we got home, with the strict rule that stamps belong only on paper. Oh, and the dentist said to get rid of the binky, so we're going to do that when Daddy has his next business trip - might as well spare someone the drama and tears.

Memorial Day weekend took us to Portland for the All British Field Meet to meet up with friends. Lola is a couple months older than Hazel, and they had fun playing with toy cars and climbing on tires. Dirty, dusty tires.
I'm not sure you can tell it from the picture above, but Hazel had a fever and was pretty mopey all weekend. I bought a cute purple thermometer with a cow on the end, to make sure the Tylenol was doing its job. We also spent a day at a Civil War re-enactment in Astoria, where we had a friend fighting for the Federal troops. Hazel perked up after being offered a Safeway sugar cookie with sprinkles - not sure about the authenticity there...
Yes, that's a fairly sharp bayonet. I tried to get that back to its owner asap.

Hazel apparently listening intently to Uncle Matt's discourse on solving problems without weapons.
